This course explores parent reactions and responses at the time of receiving unexpected news, during processing, and over time. You’ll consider what parent-centred, trauma-informed care can look like. After an introduction to theories of adaptation, and grounded in a case study, you’ll unpack the enablers and barriers to parent adaptation. Finally, you’ll reflect on a brief narrative from a parent’s perspective to deepen your understanding of emotional and relational impacts.
